Wood Painting

Recently, I learned the technique of double bevel marquetry. This is a way to cut different tiny shapes of wood to perfectly fit together. This freehand technique is a great way to add any shape and color of wood to a composition very much in the same way a painter would add paint to a canvas.

This picture is composed of 20 different types wood. It shows me writing part of a quote from 'The Lord of the Rings' by JRR Tolkien. The painting is 12" (30.5cm) wide by 9" (22.9cm) tall.

The image is divided into 12 tiles and will eventually become a puzzle locking mechanism for something special.

12 tiles.

Corner tile.

A close up showing woods.
